ROOT CANAL TREATMENT IN CEDAR RAPIDS
Preserving Smiles in Cedar Rapids For Improved Oral Health
Sometimes decay and cavities happen, no matter how well you take care of your teeth. But if the deterioration is left untreated, it can severely damage an infected tooth and even wreak havoc on adjacent teeth. This is why endodontic therapy is such an important, essential part of dentistry. It’s a highly specialized treatment that’s focused on saving as much of your natural tooth structure or pulp as possible.
You probably know endodontics by its more common name – the root canal. Now, we know those two words aren’t necessarily something you want to hear because they tend to cause fear and discomfort for so many people. But thanks to so many advancements in technology and treatment techniques, modern root canals are nothing like they were in the past.
There’s really nothing to be nervous or worried about. We promise to ensure you’re comfortable and at ease during your treatment.
For some exceptionally complex cases, we may refer out to one of our trusted specialists.
What is a Root Canal?
All of your teeth have something called dentin underneath your enamel. Dentin is a soft tissue that’s commonly referred to as the pulp of your tooth which contains tiny nerves, tissue, and blood vessels. Sometimes your tooth’s pulp can get infected and become severely inflamed due to:
- Cavities
- Decay
- Multiple dental treatments
- Cracks and chips
- Trauma
If you have a tooth or teeth that are infected or have any of these issues, it’s very important that you give our office a call so we can assess your situation. If left untreated, you could end up with an unwanted abscess or find yourself in extreme pain, and no one wants that!
During root canal therapy, we can successfully remove the infected pulp before cleaning the inside of your tooth to make sure there’s no harmful bacteria or decay left behind. The dentist will usually fill your tooth with a rubbery material before placing a custom crown or filling over the area.
If the dentist recommends a root canal to help your smile stay healthy, please don’t worry. Thanks to our state-of-the-art technology and our caring, gentle team, you’re going to enjoy treatment that’s relatively pain-free and very effective at restoring your tooth or teeth. You won’t have to avoid certain foods because your tooth hurts or hide your smile out of embarrassment any more!

FANTASTIC! They helped my 2 month old with his tongue, lip, cheek ties, and immediately made a huge difference in all the areas he was struggling. He is even happier and far less fussy- he’s finally slept good for the first time in his short 11 weeks of life! Couldn’t be happier I was referred to them, and for their help with my little guy!

This is a great dental office. Everyone is very friendly and professional. They take the time to explain everything and don’t make me feel rushed when I have questions. Dr. Nelson and her team get an A+.

This was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had at the dentist or doctor. I haven’t been to the dentist in 7 years, largely due to a bad experience. Haley (hygienist) was super knowledgeable, friendly, and answered all of my questions. She even helped me develop a plan to get my dental health where it needs to be in the future. Blaine (dentist) was friendly and knowledgeable as well! I highly recommend this office. I never thought I would be happy walking out of a dentist office. Thank You Dental Touch!
